What kind of advertising can I do for my college area restaurant?

I own a little restaurant in the college area of San Diego. I’m wondering if you can give me any tips for advertising my sandwich shop to the college students.
Print advertising? Online Advertising? How much does it cost?
Can you also give any ideas on special events or promotions to get customers in?

In addition to the suggestions from the previous person, if I were you I would look into the nearby college newspaper and find out their rates for advertising in print and on the website. Contacting someone in the sports or student activities departments of the college to find out about possible sponsorship opportunities (this will probably cost more than advertising in the campus newspaper).
Word of mouth and flyers are probably going to be the cheapest way to get your name out there. You can hire students to hand out flyers on campus. Where I went to college (University of New Mexico) there was always a guy handing out flyers in a funny outfit, everyone laughed but they were one of the most popular lunch places in the area.

Land (non-net) advertisng costs alot but not sure how much xactly. If youre thinking billboards youre paying thousands to a million.
You can advertise online here without paying anything, unless you make a sale, of course.
Simply think of a coupon offer for group discounts, family discounts, student discounts..anything you can think of and presto!- you can advertise for FREE- pay only for every coupon redemption.
I wouldn’t recommend advertising online. It doesn’t work for your type of business.
Use fliers. Walk around the neighborhood and hand out fliers.
Advertise in the college newspaper.

While online methods are very effective for natiowide buinesses who may have a online business to promote etc. Local Rest for your college might not be something I would focus on building that type of advertising campaign around. However I would make flyers, put an ad on the college campus radio station, post flyers, pass out coupons, mail the campus residence your mini menu, offer additional services like free delivery of for $1.50 AND WORD of MOUTH if the food is good they will come. Always give away free samples college kids like to eat and will come back for the paid stuff! Wish I had some! yummy! Hope I helped
