I lived in an apartment for 5 years and never had anything changed not the carpet nothing!!! We only got our washer machine fixed ecause it broke. I see a lot of people getting theire appliances changed and stuff and i was just wondering if the landlord is required to do that or not?
Ty

They are not required to do it at all. We only change them when they are not able to be fixed. Have you asked the landlord for new ones?
The landlord is only required to provide working appliances (and that only includes a stove and refrigerator), unless otherwise specified in the lease. However, if you are a long term tenant, and intend to stay longer, your landlord is likely to at least replace the carpet for you if you ask.
Landlords do not replace any appliances that are not broken nor any carpeting they feel is still functional. This is true of both complex apartments and independents. Complexes will occasionally update but independents rarely do. And even if they do they generally replace with the same low end they had before so you gain nothing except newer. Upscale apartment complexes these days if you are willing to pay the money come with fabulous appliances, granite countertops and hardwood floors but if you are in the run of the mill, you will only get the run of the mill.
No. There is no requirement to upgrade appliances, as long as they are in good working condition. The same applies to the carpets. As long as they are serviceable, there is no requirement to replace.
