I live in a rental & the dryer that was in the house when I moved in has broken down. Do I need to pay for it to be fixed, or does my landlord?
Lease states:
Appliances and Utility: Lessee with be responsible for the repair cost of labor and materials for any misuse and abuse.

Landlord. I don’t think this is misuse and abuse, it’s wear and tear. It’s their dryer, they need to fix it.
looks like you are responsible. but i’d call him and check just to be sure.
Well if you didn’t "misuse and/or abuse" the landlord has to pay for it.
If he doesn’t you might as well drop it bc that’s the sucky thing about renting, you have the chance of getting a sucky landlord. Let him know that’s it is broke bc if you just go and buy your own he may keep your deposit to fix the broken one.
I hate renting!!
if the dryer was not abused its the landlord
Claire, it looks like he pays, unless you tried to stone wash a pair of jeans in it or something. If you just used it normally, it’s his job.
as long as you did not abuse it ar misuse it it is the responsability of the landlord call him and let him know.i bet he makes you pay the bill anyway see how nice your landlord is.
To the extent described here – it would appear the landlord would cover normal wear and tear.
if you broke it yourself, then yes you need to fix it. And I mean that llike if you abused it, kick it whatever, wash bowling balls, ect, LOL> which I hope you didn’t. If it just quit with mechanical failure he should get it fixed. Tell him about it and see who he goes through to get that fixed, then that company will come do repairs and bill your landlord.
I believe the landlord would be responsible…I have lived in places where I worked a deal with the landlord…I had appliances repaird and sent him/her a copy of the bill and deducted it from my rent. But make the deal with the landlord first.
If you have been misusing or abusing, like the lease says, you will have to pay up. If it’s common wear and tear, the landlord will pay.
At first i would say you but acording to the statement it looks like he is to pay, i would have to think it would be hard to break a dryer after awhile parts break. Give him a call and let him know.
