  • Does a full lint trap disable the heating element in a dryer?

Does a full lint trap disable the heating element in a dryer? my friend contend that a full lint trap stops the dryer from heating up. I contend it just obstruct the airflow prevent hot air from circulating
Our dryer is fine :) My roommate is arguing that our heat for our apartment isn’t working because the filter maybe full… Just like a Dryer doesn’t heat up when the lint trap is full.

Random and stretched logic i know.

As far as the drier goes you are both right. The clogged lint trap will A.) trip the thermal switch and cut off the heater element and B.) Limit the flow of circulating hot air which will leave the clothes hot but not dry. As far as the heat in your home goes the clogged furnace filter could be a very good reason the heat is not coming out of the vent. GOOD LUCK!!

It doesn’t disable the heating element, but it is a fire hazard

      I would think so

but need to clean with vacuum on the lien trap so it prevent fires.

If the dryer is not heating there might be fuse. We had problem once and the repairman put new one and the dryer works like new. It kind of old dryer we had for several years.

Yes.. there is a thermal sensor in the exhaust vent that will cut power to the heating coils if the temp reaches a certain temp thus reducing the chance of fire

NO IT DOES NOT disable the heating element in a dryer.. NOTHING DISABLES THE HEATING ELEMENT IN A DRYER.. however a heating element can stop heating up then that means u need to replace the heating element.. alot of people will just go and buy a new dryer instead of the best and less costly way by replacing the heating element.. All the lent trap does is prevents the lent from getting into the vent hose on the back which prevents the air from circulating which will burn out ur heating element if it is closed off from lent.. ALSO IF U DONT KEEP UR LENT TRAP CLEAN UR CLOTHES WILL NOT DRY AS FAST..

You are both right. Obstruct air flow, no air leaves dryer and dryer heats up and causes the high limit switch to trip out. Some will reset were a lot of them need to be replaced. All dryers have them and they are there for your safety. If you touch the top of the dryer and it is very hot then the air is no escaping the dryer, it should only be warm and you need to clean the lint trap and or the entire exhaust line.

      Good luck

I believe you are right. If you have ever had a full lint trap and dried clothes, they are WARM- but still went, which I do believe means obstructed air flow. If you heating element went out they wouldnt even get warm.

A full lint trap does obstruct the airflow in the dryer, and it is also, a fire hazard. Yes, a fire hazard. That is why you are to clean out the dryer lint screen after each use of the dryer, even if there isn’t a whole lot of lint in the screen.
As for a furnace filter, that does need to be changed every year, at the beginning of autumn is the best time. It’s also good to get the furnace serviced (that includes the new filter, I believe) every year, to make sure the furnace is running properly.
      Take care.

It won’t stop the heating element, it IS A FIRE HAZARD, THOUGH. Lint is easily set ablaze. Clean the lint trap after every load!!!!!!!
