  • Is the heating system in my apartment legal?

The heating system in my apartment in governed by a thermostat in the common area. My room is much colder than the common area. For example, the heat is not on and it is 70 in the common area, but only 55 in my room. So I need the heat on in my room, but turing it on will overheat the rest of the apartment. My landlord told me to set the heat to 75 or to use a space heater. This doesn’t seem right because it is impossible to have a reasonable temperature throughout the entire apartment and I should not have to use a space heater as the primary heat source in my room. However, I feel it is legal since there technically is heat in my room, I just have to crank it up and make the rest of the apartment uncomfortable. I live in Massachusetts if that matters and I pay for my own heat. I have also fully insulated my windows.

U SAID APARTMENT, IS IT A HOUSE WITH ONLY ONE HVAC UNIT? U SAID U PAY THE UTILITIES, DEFINE, ELEC, GAS, WATER OR ALL THE ABOVE. U NEED TO CHECK YOUR LEASE. DO U PAY FOR UTITITIES TO A COMPANY OR THE LANDLORD? I BELIEVE I AM ASKING THE PROPER QUESTION U NEED TO CHECK OR ASK. IF U PAY THE UTILITIES THEN U SHOULD BE IN CONTROL OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE AND THE AMOUNT OF WATER U USE FOR SHOWERS. OR IS THIS ONE OF THE KENNEDY BILL IN YOUR STATE THAT BELIEVE WE NEED THE GOVERMENT(LANDLORD) TO TELL US WHAT TO DO OR IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR US???????????? I GUESS THE NEXT QUESTION IS OBVIOUS WHEN ARE U MOVING TO A REAL APARTMENT?????????????? SOME OF THE ANSWERS I READ SAID U HAVE TO GO SPEND MORE MONEY. NO WAY.

You should get a small fan to blow the warmer air into your room.

a small fan would just make it colder, so. and yes it is legal, and a space heater is probably a good idea, and wearing socks helps buecause it doesnt let the heat escape from your feet

Go to Lowes, buy a Radiator. Those things will heat your room up to a comfortable level with no fans or noises. It’s an Oil Filled Radiator for about $60.

Its Legal, but I would be interested as to why the bed room is so cold.
