What kind of heating should I use for my Leopard Gecko?
I would definitely rather use an under tank heating pad than a light. But, if I do, will I still need to use the light? Do I have a choice? Please help.

You can use both. what i do for my leo is use a black light during the day because a dark color will not irritate their eyes. i also use a heat pad. (oh by the way the bulb is 75 W and can get up to 90 F.)
This gets too hot, so i use a light dimmer for the bulb to make it a perfect temp. so yes. you would want to use both. if you dont want to use a dimmer, use a 60 W bulb. (my pet store doesnt have a 60 Watt bulb in that type, so i use a dimmer.)
Now night time. it should be no higher than 85 at hottest point at night. in the desert, they come out at night because bugs are out and the living temp is cooler. they burrow down in the sand to get the warmth of the sand that absorbed during the day. so a heat pad would be good for natural simulation. It helps them properly digest foods. that is perfect for them and if the temps drop they are better off. So just the heat pad at night.
Ok so to sum up,
- During the day a low wattage bulb (60) and a heat pad.
- At night, just the heat pad on.
Heat pad should always be on, but if it gets really warm in your house for some reason i would unplug the heatpad until you can cool down again.
Good Luckkk!!
You can actually use both. You can use the light during the day, and the heat pad at night so it doesn’t get cold during the night. If you do use both, get a 60 watt sunglow bulb and make sure the temp stays around 85-90F.
Reptile bulbs are the best thing for any and all reptiles. They serve the purpose of light, heat, and UVB. Your gecko will thank you if you give it all 3 of those things. And under the tank pad should only be used to add heat with a bulb. So yes, please get a bulb!!!
well you should use a under tank heater because leos get heat from underneath. plus leos are nocturnal so they don not require a light but some people prefer to watch them at night. If you do get a light, get a reptile nightlight.
