My apartment isn’t insulated and I can’t afford heat/hot water. My electric heater is barely working and wearing layers doesn’t seem to be helping. It’s about 20 degrees outside as well.I have been using a heating pad in bed for heat, but never fell asleep with it. I think it automatically shuts off when it reaches a certain temp., does it make it safe?

How much does it cost for heating, hot water, and electricity?

I have an apartment that’s about 600 square feet. If anyone has a similar sized place, i’d like to know what to expect in terms of monthly bills for heating, hot water, and electricity. Thanks

This is my first winter living in my own apartment and I’m not sure what heating tips I should keep in mind. It is electric heat. Does it really make a difference what temp you keep it on? (such as 68 instead of 72?) Is it important to turn it off at night? etc.

Does a full lint trap disable the heating element in a dryer?

Does a full lint trap disable the heating element in a dryer? my friend contend that a full lint trap stops the dryer from heating up. I contend it just obstruct the airflow prevent hot air from circulating Our dryer is fine :) My roommate is arguing that our heat for our apartment isn’t working because the filter maybe full… Just like a Dryer doesn’t heat up when the lint trap is full. Random and stretched logic i know.

Is the heating system in my apartment legal?

The heating system in my apartment in governed by a thermostat in the common area. My room is much colder than the common area. For example, the heat is not on and it is 70 in the common area, but only 55 in my room. So I need the heat on in my room, but turing it on will overheat the rest of the apartment. My landlord told me to set the heat to 75 or to use a space heater. This doesn’t seem right because it is impossible to have a reasonable temperature throughout the entire apartment and I should not have to use a space heater as the primary heat source in my room. However, I feel it is legal since there technically is heat in my room, I just have to crank it up and make the rest of the apartment uncomfortable. I live in Massachusetts if that matters and I pay for my own heat. I have also fully insulated my windows.

What are the best small appliances for my future kitchen?

I’m moving into an apartment in a week, and am trying to plan what I should buy for it. The kitchen already has an oven, microwave, etc… so what I’m looking for are small appliances like a toaster, Foreman grill, and so on. I’m a rookie when it comes to kitchens, so I’m wondering what the most important, most versatile, and most cost effective appliances I can buy are. So far, I’m planning on a toaster, pressure cooker and an electric contract grill. What else should I get?
